What should you pay special attention to with the Golden Retriever?
Overweight and joint problems
Golden Retrievers have a natural tendency to be overweight. In particular, dogs that have been spayed or neutered tend to gain weight quickly afterwards.
Overweight Golden Retrievers are at a higher risk of developing joint problems, such as hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia. It is a genetic condition that slowly progresses and can cause the dog a lot of pain. If the condition is neglected, the dog will eventually be barely able to walk.
Feeding your dog a well-balanced diet and making sure he gets plenty of exercise can help minimize the risk of such conditions.

Allergies

In about 50% of allergic cases it concerns a food allergy or hypersensitivity to animal proteins (beef, chicken or grains (wheat)). If this turns out to be the case, it often helps to switch to a hypoallergenic diet .
